Scrutineering in plain words | |
| Callbacks | |
| The judging for the non-final rounds and the final rounds are different. In the non-final rounds, judges just say 'yes' or 'no' for you. What you'll see in the result sheet is how many 'yes' you got (represented by 'X'). At every round there will be a cut-off, so you can see how many markings were needed to move onto the next round. | |
| Cumulative marks and the art of Skating System | |
| For the final round, every judge has to rank you. So they place you between 1 and 6 (or 7 or 8 sometimes) positions. Then every judge's ranking for you is taken into consideration for your final placement. | |
| Here's how cumulative marks work with the Skating System that DanceSports competitions use. If you look at the columns, the first column in cumulative marks says '1'. This records the number of judges ranked you as number 1. The second column is '1-2', which records the number of judges ranked you number 1 as well as number 2 and so on for other columns. Now, at every column, a comparison is made. If a couple has majority of the marks (e.g., if there were 5 judges, majority marks is 3), that couple receives the place of the given column. | |
| If there were more than one couples with the majority of the marks, the couple with the highest mark receives the contented place and the next couple receives the next place and so on. | |
| If two couples have same number of majority of the marks, their placements up to that column are summed and the couple with the lowest total gets that placement and the other couple gets the next placement. This total is shown in the parentheses whenever applicable. | |
| Rule 10 and 11 | |
| These rules are only applicable in multi-dance events to break the ties. In case of multi-dance events, the final summary box will have the total marks of each couple's placements in the individual dances. The couple with the lowest total gets the first place and so on. If two couples have the same total, Rule 10 is used to break the tie. If the tie cannot be broken with Rule 10, then Rule 11 is used. Application of these rules is indicated by 'R10' or 'R11' in the final summary box. Usage of Rule 11 means the couples were really close in placements. | |
